Weekend Image Quiz: Wolverine

Wolverine image
Here’s an image from the recent Official Handbook of the Marvel Universe: Wolverine 2004. It shows Wolverine’s skeleton and how his claws work. How many errors can you find in the image? I’ve found 4 (so far). [UPDATE: Up to 6 now.]

Seriously, this isn’t brain surgery rocket science. Most of these mistakes were easily preventable. Doesn’t anybody edit these books, or at least fact check them?

HINTS:
1. Two of the mistakes are mislabeled bones.
2. One of the mistakes is an art mistake.
3. Another mistake is someone trying to sound intelligent by using a medical term, but using it wrong.

  1. Well, let’s see… They screwed up their tarsals and carpals, and horribly mis-used the word “sepsis”… As for the art error, well, the colorist seems to think that Wolvie’s cocyx isn’t attached to his spine, which must make him fun at limbo parties.

  2. Very good — except that I missed the unattached coccyx too — so that leaves at least one more error…

  3. Isn’t it ‘fibula’ instead of ‘fibia’?

  4. You’re right. That’s another one I missed!
    So we’re up to 6 errors now…

  5. Art “mistake”: his claws supposedly sit in the space between elbow and wrist joints, allowing both to bend. They’re always drawn too long. I usually chalk that up to artistic license, but if they’re going for scientific accuracy…

What’s disturbing though is the horrible description of what was done to put the adamantium in his bones. Jesus Christ.

  6. Is it just me, or are the bones of his forearm out of whack? I’m pretty sure the radius attaches to the outer side of the elbow joint, so the radius and ulna shouldn’t be crossed over in this pose.

  7. Bingo. That’s it Mark. The radius and ulna should be parallel. Here, the radius is drawn to look like a corner support.
