“Who’s On First” Friday

It was such a busy and hectic Friday at the clinic that I needed to take a sanity check, so I thought it would be the perfect time to stop and enjoy one of the best comedy routines of all time: Abbott and Costello’s Who’s On First.
Here are couple of more modern takes on the same skit. First, Johnny Carson as Ronald Reagan:
Second, Slappy and Skippy Squirrel at Woodstock, from Animaniacs (frankly, this is only Slappy sketch I could stand. I never really liked that character, nor the pigeon Goodfeathers)

The Goodfeathers (I think that was them) wore thin fairly quickly. The Joe Pesci one could be amusing, mostly doing the “Am I a clown” schtick. Though really the best one of that was in the mash-up episode where he was teamed with Runt…
But yeah the Woodstock episode was one of the few Slappy bits that was actually good and not tolerable. Though I generally liked..Skippy? That was the nephews name wasn’t it?
But least favorite for me will always be the hippos. I never saw the humor there at all…

My favorite of the Slappy sketches was the one with the petty neighbor and the trash can. Though the Bambi sketch was pretty funny, too. Actually, I think I liked most of Slappy. The Goodfeathers left me cold, and I found Buttons and Mindy to be upsetting. Such neglectful parenting! Poor dog! The hippos…I had forgotten about them, probably with good reason.
Animaniacs did so well in large part because it recycled a lot of old comedy classics inbetween the newer bits. Shoot. Now I’m going to have to put them on my Netflix queue. See what you’ve done, Scott!

I didn’t mind the “Daniel Boone” Slappy, because it had an appearance by the Dover Boys.

You are a gentleman and a scholar. I remember both of those extra ones from when they aired, and I had never even bothered to hope to see them again.
Slappy was actually my favourite character on Animaniacs. Okay, not all of her cartoons were winners, but I thought the character was great.
(Didn’t like the Goodfeathers as much, but they are responsible for the best line of the whole series. It’s from the cartoon where they’re World War I carrier pigeons, and someone’s trying to intercept them for their secret message. They need to take evasive action, and Bobby or Pesto has a bright idea:
Bobby or Pesto: I know! Fly towards the sun!
Squit: It’s 93 million miles away! We’ll never make it!)
