Carol Danvers, Busted

When did Carol Danvers get demoted to Senior Airman?

Note to artists and editors: Those wings on the uniform sleeves aren’t just decoration, they’re rank insignia — and it seems that Carol has been busted from an O-4 (Major) to an E-4 (Senior Airman). At least they got the branch of service right.

  1. Dang it. Another slacker artist. Even in the days before the web, it wasn’t hard to find out what military from around the world wear; in the days of the internet, it’s so easy it’s stupid.

Though I once got saluted by a group of marines at MCAS Cherry Point back when I was an E-3 in the USCG…

  2. When I initially went through USAF health officers’ training, it was at Medina Annex (part of Lackland AFB) in San Antonio. In addition to USAF officer’s training, lots of foreign officers and NCOs went through training there as well. They’d all wear their usual uniform and rank insignia and it was nearly impossible to tell who you had to salute. Sure, they all wore a small pin with their equivalent US rank, but you could never see it. Someone would walk by with 3 stars on their epaulets and end up being a junior NCO; another time I saw someone with a seashell and a dove on their collar and they eneded up being a full Colonel.

  3. And when did the Air Force start folding American flags so the stripes are showing instead of the stars?
