Your Weekend Moment of Psychic Nosebleed Zen: Emma Frost
October 6th, 2006
A new subject this week in my examination of psychic power-related nosebleeds: Emma Frost!
This image is from Emma Frost #1, by Karl Bollers and Randy Green. I know it looks at first like a fencing injury, but the blood on her fencing outfit is really the blood dripping down from her nose. This is from a scene when her mutant powers are first starting to manifest, mostly as headaches. As an aside, I always thought Emma Frost was a surprisingly well-done series. It’s a shame it had to be marred by cheesecake covers that had nothing to do with the interior story. |

That’s interesting to hear. I love the She-Hulk series, and feel like the exact same
Maxim cheesecake cover makes people shy from Slott’s smart and comedic story within.
Didn’t Horn also do the Emma Frost covers…hmmm…trendspotted.

I enjoyed the Emma Frost series very much, but those covers were downright embarrassing. I wonder how many readers they lost because of them? I receive my comics by mail so I order in advance, but if I was buying in a shop, I don’t think I would have picked it up.

Good point about the covers on Emma Frost. I don’t know that I would use the word marred, but I am a guy.
It never occurred to me that he did the She-Hulk covers as well. I think they work in that tone is jokey or playful. Sure there’s sex appeal,
but I think that they work within the context of the series.

I stopped reading Emma Frost because my wife found the covers. Great book completely ruined by the packaging.
